Hidden Palace

The Hidden Palace (相貌宮) is a dark palace ruled by the subconscious self — deep-seated, subjective views and old, inherited assumptions a person cannot easily see in themselves. It governs inner disposition, the psyche and spirit, and the fixed convictions that quietly shape judgment.

Its classical principle is "the face is born of the heart" (相由心生): outward appearance is read as a projection of the inner organs, spirit, and soul, which is why it also touches on physiognomy, appearance, and self-image. Positioned just before the Life Palace in the wheel, it represents both the accumulated karmic "original face" carried from past lives and the self foreshadowed for lives to come — the point where the cycle of life continually renews.

It stands opposite the Service Palace: self-absorption and inner subjectivity against selfless, outward-facing service.
