People who treat fortune-telling as a tool see life as taking a boat out to sea. The sea has currents, and it has reefs. What a reading gives you is not a script. It is a sea chart.
Currents: the people who want to help you in this major period
The currents are the people who, in this major period (大運), especially want to help you. But if someone is going to help you, you want them to help in the right place, so you have to give them something to push against. However strong the current, if the sail is not trimmed, the boat will not reach where you want to go.
Reefs: people who are hard to talk to, and work that meets more obstacles
There are two kinds of reef.
One kind is people. You will meet some who are very hard to talk to, but you still have to find a way to communicate and compromise with them. The sea chart tells you how to go around, so you do not run aground.
The other kind is work. In this major period, some kinds of work will simply meet more obstacles. Those you avoid when you can.
Where a sense of control comes from
So a sense of control was never about being able to order the sea to be calm. It is that I have read the currents and trimmed my own sail.
A sea chart will be off now and then. Then you correct the chart and set out again.
Some people fear that once they have looked at the chart, the sea is no longer their own. But running blindfolded through the fog is not courage.
