Ethereal Benevolence

Ethereal Benevolence (紫炁) is the Shadow Regent of Jupiter in Eastern Classical Astrology — and uniquely, the only auspicious Shadow Regent among the Four Shadows.

Where Jupiter governs mainstream social orthodoxy and conventional thought, Ethereal Benevolence governs the non-orthodox streams of spiritual cultivation: Daoist practice, Buddhist teaching, esoteric healing arts, and what classical sources call "the teachings of the three religions and nine streams" (三教九流). It is the planet of monks, elders, esoteric physicians, and those who pursue inner cultivation over worldly recognition.

Classical texts describe it as "the lesser benevolence" (仁之小者) — an all-pervading, air-like grace that is often imperceptible but vital for soul development. Those with strong Ethereal Benevolence in their charts tend toward spiritual accumulation, understated generosity, and the capacity to dissolve the harmful effects of the Lunar Apogee (月孛) through clarity and inner cultivation.

It completes one zodiacal cycle in approximately 27–29 years. Unlike other Shadow Regents, its calculation is more closely related to lunar projection than to Jovian orbital elements.

Ethereal Benevolence is a day star — its grace is clearest and most potent in diurnal charts.
