Harmonious Star

吉曜

A star in low friction with the chart's ruler — one that sits in easy, harmonious relationship with the self, not an absolutely "good" planet.

A Harmonious Star (吉曜) is a planet in low friction with the chart's ruling star — one whose relationship to the self is easy, cooperative, and harmonious. It is the favourable pole of the like/dislike (喜忌) layer.

The key to this term is that it names a relationship, not an absolute nature. In the friction framework, all things — world and society, society and person, person and person — meet with more or less friction, and friction is relative rather than fixed. A Harmonious Star is simply one where friction with the self is small: the relationship runs smoothly, and advantage tends to flow from it.

Because friction is re-priced over time and across life-periods, a star that is harmonious in one context need not be so in another — "it is not that a star is good or bad, but that a relationship is harmonious or in friction."
